What is this qualification about?
This qualification considers the role of individuals who apply specialised knowledge and skills, together with experience in leadership and management, across a range of enterprise and industry contexts. Individuals at this level use initiative and judgement to plan and implement a range of leadership and management functions, with accountability for personal and team outcomes. Learners use cognitive and communication skills to identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources and transfer their knowledge to others, and creative or conceptual skills to express ideas and perspectives or respond to complex problems.

What will you learn?
During the Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management you will learn key business skills that will enable you to be a more effective leader and manager, exhibiting enhanced communication, managerial, leadership and decision making skills.

The learning experience
The course is organised so that you are provided with an intensive, action-oriented, interactive learning experience. Case studies and live business situations are used to demonstrate how the theory applies to practical work situations. As a result of this process, you will acquire a broad range of business knowledge, skills, and techniques. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to immediately operate effectively in office work situations.

The qualification consists of the following units:
There are twelve units to study to obtain the Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management. These units provide the skills and knowledge needed to lead and manage organisations at middle and senior managerial and executive roles in a business environment.

Manage knowledge and information
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and maintain information processing systems to support decision making and to optimise the use of knowledge and learning throughout the organisation.

Lead and manage organisational change
This unit describes skills and knowledge required to determine strategic change requirements and opportunities; and to identify, develop, implement and evaluate change management strategies.

Manage finances
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake budgeting, financial forecasting and reporting and to allocate and manage resources to achieve the required outputs for the business unit. It includes contributing to financial estimates, allocating funds, managing budgets and reporting on financial activity.

Contribute to organisational development
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to contribute to the creation of an organisation development plan which ensures that the organisation will become more effective over time in achieving its goals. Essential elements of this unit consider developing an organisational development plan, implementing organisational development activities, and maintaining an organisational development program.

Manage innovation and continuous improvement
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to sustain and develop an environment in which continuous improvement, innovation and learning are promoted and rewarded. It involves reviewing programs and processes, developing options for continuous improvement, and implementing innovative and sustainable processes.

Provide leadership across the organisation
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate senior leadership behaviour and personal and professional competence, and includes communicating organisational mission and goals, influencing groups and individuals, building and supporting teams, and demonstrating professional competence.

Develop and implement strategic plans
You will learn the skills and knowledge required to establish the strategic direction of the organisation, sustain competitive advantage and enhance competitiveness. It covers analysis and interpretation of relevant markets, capability assessment of the organisation and analysis of the organisation’s existing and potential competitors. It also covers implementation of the strategic plan and specific actions to be instituted.

Develop and implement a business plan
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage a business operation and you will learn to develop and implement a business plan, monitor performance, as well as analyse, review and respond to performance data.

Develop a marketing plan
This unit requires you to research and develop a marketing strategy, plan marketing tactics and prepare and present a marketing plan.

Manage risk
In this unit you will learn to establish risk contexts, identify, assess, and analyse risks and decide on appropriate risk treatment options before reporting on the risk actions.

Manage quality customer service
This unit undertakes the planning activity with a view to plan and meet internal and external customer requirements. Requirements include ensuring the delivery of quality products and services, and monitoring, adjusting and reviewing customer services.

Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability
In this unit you will develop and communicate, implement, and review workplace sustainability policies. These policies are developed in the context of improving strategies and policies within workplaces through engaging with a range of relevant stakeholders and specialists.

Assessment
Assessment occurs in a simulated work environment and consists of assignments, projects and presentations. Where students are employed, assessment can occur in the workplace.

Delivery format
This course can be delivered in a variety of formats including face-to-face over an extended period, in an intensive mode, online, or a blend of face-to-face and online.
